Individual Perinatal Therapy

Tender healing for invisible wounds.

In Seattle & across WA

Your parenting journey is proving harder than you had hoped.

Our culture likes to make it all seem so easy, doesn’t it?

With inauthentic depictions & perfectly curated social media posts making us feel like not enough.
Like we should all somehow magically…

• Instantly fall in love with our babies

• Easily feed our babies

• Be able to balance paid work & parenting

• Have a solid sense of self after such a monumental life event

These things can be challenging enough when the road to parenthood is relatively smooth!

But what happens to our sense of well-being when we are additionally expected to:

• Get (& stay) pregnant without effort or money or other people

• Gloss over a loss & just try again

• Know how to survive with one child in the NICU & one at home

• Have access to all our parental instincts while under immense stress

Whether you are expecting, parenting, or have experienced a loss, the time has come to add a new layer of professional care to your life.

No one is meant to go through these experiences without proper support & yet too many do. We have lost our collective village. And so when parents experience depression, anxiety, scary thoughts, hopelessness, thoughts of self-harm, or any number of other things it can feel deeply isolating & frightening. But you are not alone &
I can help you feel better.

When you bravely seek out mental health care, you are taking the first step toward healing, connection, & rediscovering the best parts of yourself so you can hold your head high, feel safe & at home in your body & move confidently into the future.

What might it feel like to know you are enough just the way you are? As a parent, partner, friend, human…

Together, We Will:

Identify

your core strengths that will help inform our roadmap for care.

Validate

your feelings & experiences. It feels lonely, but you’re not alone.

Prioritize

the details of our plan based on what feels most urgent right now.

Reclaim

your sense of well-being, hope & joy.

I describe my clinical approach as “three peas in a pod”. Hear me out…

My 3-pronged approach, detailed below, is represented by the peas. And the pod is the container that holds all of these in alignment. For me, that pod is the Art of Holding framework for working with perinatal distress; the heart of where I root my work.

When humans are treated in a holistic, global way like this, healing tends to be deeper & longer lasting.

1

Talk Therapy

This traditional approach addresses thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. I weave together a number of modalities to create a unique treatment approach just for you.

2

Somatic Experiencing
We can’t talk or think our way out of everything; sometimes we have to feel our way out. Somatic (body-based) techniques honor the wisdom and research that tell us our bodies keep the score.

3

Flash Technique
This EMDR-based technique helps to reduce or eliminate the negative sensations associated with trauma. It is evidence-based, fast, and does not require a conscious re-experiencing or retelling of events.

When you work with me, these are a few examples of the outcomes you can expect, depending on your individual needs:

  • Understand how your nervous system plays into healing & develop a toolbox of somatic ways to increase your sense of calm & safety
  • Strengthen your connections with people & activities you love
  • Learn how to create gentle daily rhythms for yourself & your baby
  • Create an adaptable, comprehensive wellness plan that includes sustainable relationships with nature, movement & sleep
  • Reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, OCD, panic, etc.
  • Increase your confidence as a parent & bolster your everyday coping skills
  • Transform traumatic experiences into manageable memories

You don’t have to do this alone.

Together, let’s discover the courage & strength inside you as we work to reconnect you with your body, calm your mind & enhance your connections with the world around you in service of lasting healing & peaceful parenting.
